2nd April 2005 _____________________________________________ VisiTyre ™ TPMS Technology Pressures the Competition at the SAE World Congress in Detroit. |
|
The Australian based developer of VisiTyre Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ETV Corporation, is set to put pressure on competing TPMS systems providers, when it unveils its unique battery-less, inductively coupled technology at the upcoming SAE World Congress in Detroit from April 11 to 14. With the Final Ruling on the fitting of TPMS due to be handed down by the US Department of Transport’s NHTSA division on July 31, the Auto Industry will be required to integrate tyre pressure monitoring to new US Passenger Vehicles over what is likely to be a two year phase-in, commencing with 50% MY 2005-06, 90% in MY 2006-07 and 100% MY 2007-08. What is less clear are some of the contentious issues that were raised in comments on NHTSA Notice of Provisional Rule Making, which closed on November 15 2005. A great deal of focus revolved around the ability of systems to indicate and display failure states and also the pressure alarm thresholds under the effects of load conditions. Alarmingly, for such an important mandated safety system, little if any comment was focused on the lack of ability for virtually all available systems to report pressure conditions until well after the vehicle has moved off into the traffic. ETV Corporation will demonstrate at the SAE that VisiTyre reports all tyre pressure and temperature conditions within seconds of the ignition being switched on, from an initial stationary position and over the vehicle’s speed range. The sophisticated VisiTyre operating system will also allow the OEM to specify to the Body Electronics companies, any combination of system checks, alarm and colour states, pressure thresholds and display options. Located at Booth 967.2 in the Oakland Hall of the Cobo Centre, ETV will be demonstrating their VisiTyre technology on a dynamic 5 wheel display as part of the Australian Trade Commission presentation and will discuss the technical and operational advantages of their system with Congress delegates and automotive industry Tier Suppliers.
